SLSA, short for Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, is a mild powder-form anionic surfactant derived from renewable coconut-palm fatty alcohol. It appears as fine fluffy white powder at room temperature. How SLSA Works In Cosmetic Formulations
SLSA molecules consist of lipophilic C12 lauryl alkyl tail and hydrophilic sulfoacetate head group. In aqueous environment, surfactant molecules form micelle structures to wrap dirt, sebum and contaminants, removing them during rinsing. Its large-size molecular cannot go deep into stratum corneum, so it reduces skin irritation risk significantly.
In solid bath-product systems, SLSA dry-mixed with baking soda and citric acid. When contacting bath-water, it dissolves rapidly and releases massive fluffy foam.
